United Visual Artists

With Echo, UVA have created an 8-minute live performance piece in collaboration with contemporary UK dance group Mimbre.
Advanced 3D cameras are used to capture the movements of the dancers on stage, translating these in real time to abstract white forms on a large-scale backdrop,in order to create a simultaneous performance.

One of my all time favourite studios. I’m not even in the same line of work as these guys, but any time I see a new project of theirs I find myself horribly envious.

maison martin margiela - tokyo shop
-
one of my favourite fashion labels - i remember going into one of their “pop-up” shops a couple of years ago, and every detail was so striped down and minimal, to the point where i had no idea who or what i was looking at while walking around inside. it made for a really great “product-focused” experience though.
p.s. whether you like the label or not, at the very least you have to check out their website, which is pretty amazing.
“this first maison martin margiela store opened in tokyo in 2000. located in the ebisu area of the city, the former residence incorporates the offices and sales rooms of kokonoe corp ltd.(the joint venture company in charge of the mason martin marginal brand in japan)as well as a store on the ground floor. in february 2006, the store mores to another location in a former electrical products factory building, still in the ebisu area.
during tokyo designers week 2010 designboom visited the shop to view the new 2010 collection, alongside other iconic products from the fashion house.”

cushionized sofa / by christiane högner

i’m normally a one-pillow behind my head kind of guy when i sleep. but i can totally see myself getting into this kind of sofa.
“Christiane Högner develops her visual and tactile universe, comprised of graphic works, products, furniture and installations. Often based on the ready-made, her design is devoted to the familiar environment of our day to day life, to the search for « lo-fi » sensations in response to a growing demand for high-tech solutions. -inspiring…”

i actually own the first edition of this book - so it’s cool to not only see that it’s getting a re-print through kickstarter, but that they’ve documented the production process as well!
“Art Space Tokyo is a book best described as a guide to some of the hidden galleries and museums in the city. Editor and co-author Ashley Rawlings and I put the book together in 2008. It sold out within a year and was never reprinted.”

beautiful sculpture work - what i really love is how you can look at it and know exactly what was happening as it was being made. stunning results.
